Otavalo Full Day

Departure will be early in the morning; due to the stops we will make along the way to the province of Imbabura. First, all tourists will be picked up from their hotels, and then we will drive to the E35, the highway that connects the entire Ecuadorian highlands. We will drive until we reach our first stop, Cayambe, where passengers will have the opportunity to taste the delicious “Bizcochos de Cayambe”, bread or biscuit baked in a clay oven (great paired with local cheese or “dulce de leche”).

Description

After this first stop, we will continue to Otavalo, home to one of the most prosperous indigenous communities in the country, the “Otavalos”, who make and sell their weavings and handicrafts all over the world. The first stop will be at the San Pablo lagoon, located at an altitude of 3100 metres, at the foot of the “Taita Imbabura”. The lagoon was created as a result of the melting of the glacier of the volcano mentioned above. After this stop, we will continue to the centre, where you can enjoy a quiet walk and, if you wish, buy handicrafts at the market.

Passengers can choose to stay in Otavalo or continue on to Cuicocha and Cotacachi. The bus will pick them up at the end of the tour.
On the way to Cotacachi, we will visit an Andean instrument workshop “Ñanda Mañachi” located in the area of Peguche, to spend some special moments with the local people and understand the Andean culture. In Cotacachi, you will have enough time to visit the village, the leather goods shops and free time for lunch.

Then we will visit the Cotacachi Cayapas Ecological Reserve, where you will find the Cuicocha Lagoon, a crater originated after a volcanic explosion thousands of years ago from the Cuicocha volcano. And if the weather permits, you can take a trip on the lagoon in small boats (at an additional cost).

After that you will return to Quito and to your respective hotels or starting point.
